SSL ?s

Got the 1.2.3 update and that helps. The only cert I can use is the one in the readme. Trying to understand why all my other certs get an:
c:/ruby/lib/ruby/1.8/net/http.rb:586:in `connect': certificate verify failed (OpenSSL::SSL::SSLError)
I tried getting a cert from cacert as well as using the x.509 I got from Amazon S3.
I guess I don't understand the point of the Amazon S3 x.509 cert and key and how they are supposed to be utilized. I've read through the dev docs and this forum and can't find a definitive answer. I hope I haven't missed anything. Any help or pointers to help would be appreciated.
Has anybody else made sense of all this?
Thanks much,
-raymond

The only cert that I know how to use is the one that AWS owns and uses to identify s3.amazonaws.com. This is the one whose public key is in the readme. I guess there must be some method to specify certs for subdomain (EU) and vanity URL modes, but I haven't been keeping up with that. Anyone else want to jump in?
