While you are at fixing the Readme:

s3sync runs happily on linux, probably other *ix, and also Windows (except that symlinks and permissions management features don't do anything on Windows). If you get it running somewhere interesting let me know (see below)

It runs on Macs quite nicely. Although you'd have to update the ruby library. But then - you'd use the same thing as on Windows: Ruby One-Click Installer: http://rubyosx.rubyforge.org/

What version are you using? Have you synced TO aws successfully, yet?

Whats the error exactly? Can you copy/paste the error line(s)?

Whats the command line you are using? It should be something along the lines of
Code:
s3sync.rb  -v -r -s  BUCKET:SOURCE  TARGET
assuming your variables are all set (which you have, otherwise it wouldn't start) and you are using ssl-encrypted traffic (-s).

#export SSL_CERT_DIR=/path/s3sync/certs
export SSL_CERT_FILE=/path/s3sync/certs/certfile

Have you tried exporting the path only (not the certificate)? Just the path pointing to it.
That works for me. Exporting the certificate does not (though I have not checked why, yet. Certainly my fault.)

Addition on 24. Nov.:
It doesn't work for me either since I've switched from 1.1.4 to 1.2.2...

Wohooo! Works for me too!!

Haven't stress-tested it yet (afraid of loosing something) but synced some thousand files and had no problem.

Thanks ferrix. You're great.

You need a new version. EU-buckets are quite new.
Here's a beta available: http://s3sync.net/forum/index.php?topic=106.msg436#msg436

I don't know the answer, but I just wanted to say that I read your post and am not ignoring you
no problem. I don't think I'll ever use those, anyway, but it's an interesting problem (methinks).

@Clou: How do S3Fox-created "European" buckets look like when listing them with s3cmd listbuckets?

Hi,

not a s3sync/s3cmd-question, but concerning data storage in Amazon S3...

Since there is a choice to store data in the US or Europe, I'm trying to find out how this could be done.
So far I came across a FAQ which says that this decision is made when creating a bucket. I haven't found out how I have to name my bucket, though, to make sure its in the US (or Europe - where it is more expensive btw).

Could somebody point me into the right direction?

Thanks very much.

Cheers

Well Glyn, "thanks" for the lecture. Roll Eyes
You are certainly everything but unarticulate, aren't you?  Tongue

The Free Online Dictionary http://www.thefreedictionary.com/unarticulate says: unarticulate - without or deprived of the use of speech or words

Doesn't sound bad to me at all. But you can always interpret something bad in it, if you are looking for it or feel guilty. I did not want to harm anybody, but I still think Ferrix is rather terse. Thats the impression I got. Why don't leave it at that. Ferrix is free to delete/censor any post he doesn't like.

And I will unsibscribe from this thread now. Not objective, functional, factual, matter-of-fact. Choose your flavour.

Yes, it works for me. That way I'm not saving files that have a .log-ending.

Wow man, I didn't see this thread for some reason until your update bumped it in RSS.
Excuse accepted. If it was even mean as such.

Hope this answers your question.
Yes, thanks.

I'm a devoted follower of s3sync, but not it's rather unarticulate programmer.
By the way I'm happy to help, but calling me names isn't a good way to make your case.  Also, I happen to be    extremely articulate.  Perhaps you meant "unresponsive" or something?
Perhaps. English is not my mother tongue. "unarticulate" is a translation, and in my language not offensive. It just describes a behaviour of somebody that is hard to communicate with.
And that is the impression I got from you by reading your answers in the forum (or the old Amazon thread), which I have read most of, if not all of them. Another word I would use to describe you is "terse". Again, I don't know if that is offensive or not. The Dictionary doesn't say so.

Not even getting feedback for about three month sucks big time.

28  General Category / Questions / Re: SSL Error on OSX 10.4 on: October 27, 2007, 03:32:41 PM
Hi,

I'm using OS X 10.4 and never had any problems.

I'm using the variable called "SSL_CERT_DIR", not "..FILE". Maybe change that.

Hi Glyn,  Cheesy

leave out the "*".
Try: --exclude "(?:__XB|@eaDir|.CR2|thumbs.db)"

Cheers.

30  General Category / Feature Requests / Re: show more than 1000 files with s3cmd.rb on: June 05, 2007, 04:52:24 PM
Hi,

just wanted to add that this request could probably be closed.
If I pipe a yes to the "s3cmd.rb list <somebucket:>" then I still get the "More Y/n: " string in my output, but that can easily be cleaned with a simple "sed 's/More Y\/n://'".

Kinda workaround, and two more apps needed to work, but it turns out okay.

Cheers.
